How LaneHawk BOB Fits into the Checkout Lane
A smart camera is flush-mounted in the checkout lane, continuously watching for items. When an item is detected and recognized using our patented ViPR® technology, its UPC information is sent directly through an Ethernet connection to the POS. The cashier verifies the items that were found under the basket and continues to close the transaction. The item can remain under the basket, and with LaneHawk BOB, you are assured to get paid for it.
This diagram illustrates how the embedded iLCU LaneHawk BOB unit detects BOB items.
POS Integration
LaneHawk BOB has POS adapters built for many POS systems, including: IBM ACE, IBM SA, NCR ACS, NCR IR, Retalix StoreLine, Retalix ISS45, and NCR FastLane.

Below is an interface example on an IBM 46XX system that identifies BOB items and locks out the 'Total' button until they have been processed.

When a BOB item is identified, the "Total" key is mapped over by a "Process BOB Items" key. This prevents the transaction from being completed until the BOB item has been acknowledged. Regular bar code scanning can continue even when BOB items are identified.
Scan Grocery Items on the Bottom of the Basket
After the Process BOB Items key has been pressed, a BOB Item screen displays the UPC, description and quantity of LaneHawk-recognized items. Once the items are confirmed by the cashier, they are automatically included in the transaction and the cashier can then total the sale.
