LaneHawk - Visual Scanner for Preventing BOB Loss
How It Works

LaneHawk is simple. Using Evolution Robotics Retail's patented ViPR® technology (visual pattern recognition) for object recognition, LaneHawk automatically detects and identifies specific items on the bottom of the cart from a predefined list of items you create and customize.

How LaneHawk Fits into the Checkout Lane
Detection of Bottom of the Cart Loss in Retail Checkout Detection of Bottom of the Cart Loss in Retail Checkout
A smart camera is flush-mounted in the checkout lane, continuously watching for items. When an item is detected and recognized, its UPC information is sent directly through an Ethernet connection to the POS. The cashier verifies the quantity of items that were found under the basket, and continues to close the transaction. The item can remain under the basket, and with LaneHawk, you are assured to get paid for it.

Components
LaneHawk consists of an Intelligent Lighting and Camera Unit (iLCU), Ethernet cable, and mounting hardware for each lane. LaneHawk has been ruggedly designed to work in the demanding retail checkout environment. The components mount on the inside of the lane so they do not interrupt customer throughput. A back office LaneHawk server processes item images and data.

Reliability
The patented ViPR technology in LaneHawk can also be found in some of today's most sophisticated robotic applications, including robots developed by Sony Corporation and the US Military. Today, the ViPR technology is embedded in over 2 million machines across the world.

Another reason LaneHawk technology is so reliable is because the system is trained on the items each retailer determines it should recognize. This enables LaneHawk to virtually eliminate false alarms, even for personal items like handbags, backpacks, and umbrellas.

Database Management
You determine the BOB items that LaneHawk should recognize. Our current customers generally find that between 300-500 items represent over 99% of all BOB items. These item images are stored as picture files with UPC information in your LaneHawk List. Updates for new products or packaging is managed by Evolution Robotics Retail.
